Of course, those were the good old days when our very own “Boxcar Joe” tilled the soil, harvested the crops, and loaded the boxcars all before lunch. Today, Bushman’s, Americas premier produce provider, grows and ships – mostly by truck – more than 10 million pounds of produce every year.

If you’re a grocer, retailer or food service provider, Bushman’s is your source for virtually any type of produce including potatoes of all varieties, onions, vegetables and a wide range of fruits. As fourth generational farmers, we know quality, but we also know that you want consistency, and that’s what we’re renowned for.

We grow, pack and ship throughout the U.S. and Canada.

It’s a big territory but when you utilize 25 different facilities across the country, you can deliver. And that’s what we do consistently. We deliver the highest quality produce to the highest quality retailers and food services providers in the U.S. and Canada. From our fields and storage sheds, to our technologically advanced packing sheds and transportation fleet, we provide every state in the country with Bushman’s produce.

There’s a lot of science and technology that goes into storing potatoes. Imagine keeping one million pounds or more of potatoes in storage for months at a time so retailers have a steady supply of a wide range of potato varieties to fulfill the appetites of America’s families. At Bushman’s, we’re known for our storage expertise, and that’s critical because quality and consistency needs to be maintained throughout the storage season. Here’s how we do it:

We utilize advanced technology that monitors and regulates temperature and humidity levels that ensures quality and consistency
Our computerized diagnostics alerts us to changing weather patterns and conditions on the outside that may impact out potatoes on the inside
The technology we have put in place allows us to hold our crops longer while still maintaining our exacting quality standards
In the end, our storage facilities are able to hold products that promote a uninterrupted supply of products to retailers throughout the year

Grading and Packing

Our grading and packing facilities score the highest grades.

Bushman’s is a leading packer of potatoes, onions and other produce, for our own suite of brands, but also for private label providers. Our innovative packing facility provides flexibility in packaging sizes, materials and weights, and is closely monitored to ensure compliance with our stringent quality control standards. Sustainability

We’re practicing what we preach when it comes to sustainable practices.

First and foremost, we’re farmers and we have been for four generations. The Bushman family understands the significance of the land to our business, and to everyone who might be influenced by healthy soil and sustainable agricultural practices. Quite frankly, if we don’t protect our land, our business will be in jeopardy. So here are some of the steps we take to be sustainable stewards:

We’re part of the Healthy Grown® “Eco-Potato” movement where we meet standards by limiting high-risk pesticides for this low toxicity program
We are in complete compliance with field-by-field certification and tracking programs that produce truly healthier grown potatoes
In 2009, we converted 800 acres of our production to the Healthy Grown® standards

When you spend as much time as we do planting, growing, harvesting, storing and packing our produce products, you certainly don’t want to cut any corners when it comes to shipping. And we don’t. Our Transportation Department has been living by our motto for decades and it’s not going to change for decades to come.

We utilize the latest advancements in Internet Truck Locating Services to track and account for every shipment
Approximately 70% of our transportation needs are secured in house.
